Celia Deane-Drummond spoke with EarthBeat in an interview where she discussed the inspirations behind the Laudato Si’ Research Institute and its wide-raging work.

In the interview, Celia highlighted the driving principle behind the Institute’s mission – to address socio-ecological issues through research that incorporates the diverse perspectives of different academic disciplines, religious traditions, as well as the voices of the world’s most vulnerable communities. She said: “The pope’s encyclical has provided inspiration by laying out a vision of integral ecology which is open to the world. Though our work is still in its infancy, we’re trying to reflect this by integrating different scientific disciplines and faith traditions and drawing them into dialogue.”

Celia also stressed the importance of connecting research with practice, a goal that the developing Global Laudato Si’ Research Network aims to fulfill, in order to “contribute to efforts that address the root causes of our ecological crisis and to have an impact on the lives of people and the planet.”
