Key Details

Job title:
Integral Agroecology Research Officer

Amishi is an Integral Agroecology Research Officer at the LSRI. Her role brings together academic research with public and policy engagement activities that support on-ground agroecology and social justice initiatives primarily in the African continent. She is based within the Integral Ecology Research Network (IERN) at the LSRI, in collaboration with the Downforce Trust.

In January 2025, she completed her MPhil in Nature, Society and Environmental Governance from the School of Geography and Environment at Oxford. For her undergraduate studies, she went to the University of Tokyo, Japan, and grew up in Jaipur, India before that.

Amishi’s research interests lie in the connections between climate change, small-scale agriculture, social justice, and forced migration. In the past, she has done research with the United Nations Development Programme around the impacts of climate change on the holistic wellbeing of South Sudanese refugees in Northern Uganda, and the limits of technocratic, 'climate-smart' approaches. She has also worked with different formal and informal educational initiatives in Uganda, the USA, India, Japan, and the UK and is keen to continue doing so.

In her everyday life, Amishi dedicates time to community building and organising. She enjoys bonding over loose leaf tea, different types of chillis and spices, and family recipes. She is currently trying to learn Arabic.
