Our vision: To draw wisdom from people and planet for a reconciled world.

The Laudato Si' Research Institute is based at Campion Hall at the University of Oxford, and is a work of the Jesuits in Britain. Since opening in 2019, our work has been inspired by Pope Francis' vision in the encyclical Laudato Si': On Care for Our Common Home.

Inspired by Ignatian traditions and drawing insights from the natural sciences, the social sciences and the humanities, the Institute’s mission is to develop an integral ecology paradigm to create a hope-filled future for socio-ecological transformation.

We engage in transformative research that bridges ecology, philosophy, theology, social sciences, and the natural sciences. From mining to Indigenous languages, from gene drive technologies to Christian-Muslim dialogue, our projects tackle today's big issues holistically, through an integral ecology paradigm.

Members of the LSRI offer teaching in a variety of departments at the University of Oxford. Courses on offer include:

  • Valuing Nature: Ethical Frameworks and Policy Implications at the School of Geography and the Environment

  • Climate Change and the Global South at the Oxford Department for International Development

  • The new Ecotheology FHS paper in the Faculty of Theology and Religion

We also offer undergraduate and graduate supervision across all departments of the University. Read more about LSRI members and their research interests:

IERN is an initiative by the Laudato Si' Research Institute that aims to connect researchers, businesses, industry, social and policy actors, and civil society to foster the integral ecology paradigm.

“If we are truly concerned to develop an ecology capable of remedying the damage we have done, no branch of the sciences and no form of wisdom can be left out, and that includes religion and the language particular to it” Laudato Si', §63
