The Affiliate Programme

Affiliates are scholars or researchers who work with the Institute for a specific period of time in addition to their primary employment. The programme aims to provide support and resources for those who seek to develop a project that is aligned with the Institute's core mission.

Affiliate status is a formal title that is offered for a duration of between 1-3 years. Applications are welcome from candidates in one of the following categories:

  • Senior academic researchers
  • Graduate students
  • Leaders from civil society or ecclesial organisations

Please note that applications for the affiliate programme are currently paused.

  • What is this programme?

The LSRI seeks to carry out cutting-edge multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research for societal transformation on the most pressing ecological and social issues of our day. We do that by pursuing a holistic and integrated research programme inclusive of all faiths and spiritual traditions, with a special concern to amplify our impact beyond the academy by connecting research with practice.

The Affiliate Programme allows individuals who already have a primary employment to work with the Institute on a project that is aligned with that core mission.

  • What kinds of affiliation are available?

Three types of affiliation are available, each of which has a different emphasis and expected contribution:

    • Researchers
For established academics proposing a piece of academic work aligned with the mission of the Institute. Research Affiliates are normally expected to contribute to a Research Paper.
    • Graduates
For graduate students (Masters level or above) seeking to develop a piece of academic work alongside or in addition to their existing course programme. Graduate Affiliates are normally expected to contribute to a Research Paper.

    • Civil Society or Ecclesial Leaders
For leaders in civil society or ecclesial organisations who are developing a specific project, network or toolkit aligned with the mission of the institute. These affiliates are normally expected to work with the institute to advance an idea that is linked with their ‘day job’ but needs a supplementary platform.

  • Who is the programme for?

We welcome applications from applicants in any of the three categories above.

Affiliates can come from any part of the world. In particular, we are keen to engage with those from countries or regions that have been under-represented in academic research.

  • What would the programme provide?

Benefits of affiliation include (but are not restricted to):

    • Permission to use a formal title provided by the Laudato Si’ Research Institute, Campion Hall, University of Oxford for the duration of the agreement
    • A profile on our website and the opportunity to contribute to an interview on your work
    • Opportunities to engage with scholars affiliated with Campion Hall and the University of Oxford, and with our wider network of scholars and practitioners across the globe
    • Support to hold consultative events that may support the development of the idea or project under consideration
    • Access to a new integral ecology library being established at Campion Hall, University of Oxford
  • What does the Affiliate Programme not provide?

    • This is not residential, full-time Fellowship
    • The institute can offer no stipend, nor any contribution to personal or other expenses, unless otherwise agreed
    • It is not expected that a residential stay in Oxford will necessarily take place, although this will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and space within the institute's offices in central Oxford may be available should it be required

The institute is hoping to expand the categories available in this programme in the near future, but at the moment we cannot accept applications from anyone not listed above, including those working in the corporate sector.

  • How do I apply?

Please note that applications for the affiliate programme are currently paused. Please check back here for further updates or get in touch via our contact form if you have a specific query.

  • What is the process for the application?

The institute aims provide an initial response within one month of submission.

Applications to the programme are reviewed on a quarterly basis. We may ask for further information or for a supplementary discussion (likely conducted remotely). The decision to appoint an Affiliate is made by the Director.
