New Briefing Note on Just Energy Transitions and Mining Published

On the fourth anniversary of the iron mine Brumadinho dam disaster in Brazil, the LSRI has published a Briefing Note on ‘Just Energy Transitions and Mining’ by Professor Anthony Bebbington.

The note highlights the intensification of the mining for iron, copper and other materials required for the renewable energy transition. The energy transition raises fundamental justice issues about biodiversity loss, livelihood loss, damage to health, democratic freedoms and others. These justice questions have to be at the forefront of our public debates and actions on the decarbonisation of our societies.
