Vacancy: IERN Project Coordinator and Assistant to the Director

The Integral Ecology Research Network (IERN) is seeking to appoint a part time (0.6 FTE) Project Coordinator and Assistant to the Director. The role will commence from 18 March 2025 on the basis of a fixed-term 20-month contract. 

The Integral Ecology Research Network is a global community connecting academics and practitioners working within the integral ecology paradigm. Its mission is to develop and promote integral ecology research and practice that can advance a just socio-ecological transformation for our world. The Integral Ecology Research Network is an initiative of the Laudato Si’ Research Institute (LSRI) based at Campion Hall, University of Oxford.

This is a new position for an individual seeking to work within an academic organisation at an exciting moment of growth and development. The role comprises project and events coordination in support of the mission of IERN, and operational support for the work of its Director, Dr Peter Rožič SJ. The candidate must have the ability to address and coordinate a wide variety of tasks efficiently. 

Role: IERN Project Coordinator and Assistant to the Director 

Location: Campion Hall, University of Oxford

Salary: £34,866 - £36,924 (pro rata; depending on experience)

Term: Initial fixed term 20 months (to October 2026)

Time: Part time: 0.6 FTE (3 days/ 24 hours per week)

  • Main duties and responsibilities

    A. Project Coordination: 

    • Support the work of new and ongoing IERN research projects and initiatives around the world.
    • Act as the main point of contact for IERN partners and stakeholders, including Jesuit networks, universities, civil society organisations and others. 
    • Coordinate efforts with the LSRI to ensure strategic alignment and efficient resource utilization. 
    • Track milestones, deliverables, and evaluations to ensure projects meet established goals for all of the above.

    B. Events Coordination:

    • Support preparation and delivery of a new Integral Ecology Summer School to take place at Campion Hall, 05-16 July 2025, and annually thereafter. Tasks include: programme coordination; support for publicity and promotion; liaison with speakers and participants; accommodation booking; travel arrangements and other bookings; budget management; on-site support for delivery of event; design of an event review process.
    • Support for other IERN events arising throughout the year, in Oxford but also remote, including contributions to the COP30 event in Brazil in November 2025. Tasks as listed above.

    C. Operational and Administrative Support to the IERN Director, Dr Peter Rožič SJ:

    • Assist in preparing documents and materials for meetings and events. 
    • Manage Director’s calendar, including scheduling meetings and organizing travel. 
    • Handle correspondence, including emails and calls, on behalf of the Director.
    • Contribute to website content management, and news and story updates.
    • Facilitate communication between the Director and team members of the LSRI and Campion Hall, and other consultants working with IERN (often remotely).
    • Assist in onboarding and supporting other IERN team members and affiliates.

    D. Perform other duties as agreed with the IERN Director

  • Qualifications

    • Minimum: undergraduate degree.
    • Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.

  • Required skills and experience

    • Experience in project coordination, preferably in academic or research environments. 
    • Ability to demonstrate skills in event coordination, if direct experience is lacking.
    • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail. 
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. 
    • A flexible approach to tasks and working hours.
    • Proficiency in office tools and project management software.

    Familiarity with environmental issues, Jesuit networks, or integral ecology is advantageous. The candidate must be in broad sympathy with the mission of IERN. For more information, see www.iern.org.

  • Supervision

    The candidate will work under the supervision of IERN Director Dr Peter Rožič SJ, and also with key members of the LSRI and Campion Hall.

    1.     Meals: Free lunch is provided in Campion Hall when on duty. 

    Hours: Part-time, 24 hours per week (0.6 FTE) (working days to be negotiated). 

    Term: Initial fixed term 20 months, thereafter subject to renewal according to availability of funding.

    Leave: The post-holder will be entitled to 18 days’ paid leave plus Bank Holidays (pro-rata) in each year.

    Probation: 3 months

    Notice: During the probationary period, notice will be a fortnight on either side. Subsequent to satisfactory review and confirmation in the post, the notice period will be one month on either side.
