Bec Beutel is a Kuku Yalanji woman, currently in her first of two years studying an MPhil in Development Studies at the Department of International Development as a Charlie Perkins and Chevening Scholar. Her research examines the role of place-based cultural resurgence in mobilising First Nations projects of nation-building and sovereignty in Australia. Before starting at Oxford, Bec graduated from the Australian National University in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Environment and Sustainability. In addition to her academic pursuits, Bec is an avid researcher of bees and previous - with hopes of one-day resuming - beekeeper, a volunteer at the local non-profit Oxford Mutual Aid, and a rowing novice.
